First Starbucks Coffee Outlet in Malacca

Malacca, 7 February 2005 – Starbucks Coffee made its debut in the historical centre of Malaysia today, with the opening of its first outlet in Malacca. The outlet in Mahkota Parade, marks the 57th Starbucks Coffee Store nationwide.

The new outlet, which is located at the main entrance of the shopping mall measures 1700 sq feet and can accommodate up to a 120 customers.

Eric Khoo, executive director, Berjaya Starbucks Coffee said, “We are very excited about this opening as it represents our first outlet in Malacca, we hope to be able to bring the Starbucks experience to all our discerning customers in Malacca.”

To celebrate this occasion, customers were given an exclusive Starbucks Coffee mug, with any purchase RM20 and above on a single receipt.

Starbucks Coffee outlets boast a great variety of coffee beverages, including the Espresso based and Frappuccino® Blended Beverages. “Our Frappuccino® blended coffee beverages like the Espresso, Mocha and Rhumba selections are proven   favourites among Malaysians and I am certain they will be well accepted in Malacca,” Khoo added.

Although its signature coffee beverages remain the most popular, Starbucks has come up with creative and complementary offerings such as the Frappuccino® Blended Tea and Frappuccino® Blended Cream, to cater to the needs of our customers. Starbucks also offers a menu consisting of refreshing and energizing tea selections from Tazo®, and wide assortment of cakes, pastries and Salads. With its warm and cosy setting, Starbucks stores have become a gathering and meeting place for Malaysians of all ages.

In the six years it has been operating in Malaysia, Starbucks has grown by leaps and bounds since its first store in KL Plaza, Jalan Bukit Bintang. Its green logo is a familiar sight and Starbucks has become a household name to many. Although global in nature, Starbucks is committed to being part of the Malaysian society and has adopted the local arts and culture scene as the beneficiary of its community projects.

The opening of the Malacca store extends this effort by promoting up-and-coming local music talents such as BedSheet Wonders, Fallen Leaves and Broken Scar, during the opening. Their performances are but a preview to more good experiences Malaccans can share with Starbucks.
