Coffee Is The Connector
Inspired by Starbucks Signing Store
Lim Anuar, Deaf Artist
Unfolding a story of unity and empowerment, this Bearista is
designed by the talented Deaf artist, Lim Anuar. More than a
visual delight, this Bearista celebrates the diverse and
vibrant communities that come together at Starbucks over the
shared love for coffee.
Join Lim Anuar as he tells an empowering tale of how over the
years Starbucks has become more than a coffee spot to many. It
is where every sip signifies progress, and every connection
made is a step towards building a more inclusive world.

About the artist

Lim Anuar, who graduated with a background in interior
architecture and visual arts, is now a self-established
artist. His artworks have been showcased in numerous local
and
international group exhibitions. Notably, he won a gold
medal in batik painting at the 8th International Abilympics
(Olympics of Ability) Competition held in Korea in 2011.
As a self-taught batik artist, Lim chose this medium because
it embodies Malaysian identity, culture, and heritage. His
passion for batik allows him to use his work as a voice to
express matters close to his heart. Drawing inspiration from
his diverse childhood experiences growing up in Penang,
Lim’s art reflects his identity as a Malaysian batik artist.
He
hopes that the messages conveyed through his paintings
resonate with and are appreciated by those who view his
work.

Starbucks Story
Starbucks Signing Store
Launched in 2016, Starbucks Malaysia opened the first Signing
Store in Malaysia. The Starbucks Signing Store provides beyond
just job creation for the Deaf community, it is also a
workplace where its Deaf partners (employees) are trained to
flourish both personally and professionally, contributing to a
more inclusive and thriving community.
Starbucks works in close partnership with The Society of
Interpreters for the Deaf (S.I.D.) to facilitate the hiring,
training and coaching of Deaf partners as they navigate the
retail
store environment and to teach Sign Language to hearing partners
at the store.
Currently in Malaysia, there are three Starbucks Signing Stores-
Starbucks Bangsar Village II, Starbucks Burma Road, and
Starbucks Vivacity Megamall.
